It isn't something that is done entirely all by itself, but it is known that cotton is produced in very large quantities. Believe it or not, clothing and cotton was the number one produced item at one point, before manufacturing of other things became more popularized.
Discovery of cotton gin revolutionized fabrics and make clothing very cheap. In fact, I believe that invention of cotton gin is the first invention that makes America become forerunner in commerce and industry. With this invention, more gold start to flow to the state and helps in expansion of other industries.
