The file type of an image can affect the loading time of a website. For example, using a JPEG image file can result in a smaller file size and faster loading time compared to using a PNG file, but JPEG may not support transparency. Conversely, PNG file format supports transparency and lossless compression, but it may have a larger file size and slower loading time.

It is important to consider the balance between image quality and loading time when choosing a file type.

In general, JPEG is a good choice for photographs and other images with many colors, while PNG is a better choice for images with fewer colors and/or transparency.

Additionally, using modern image formats such as WebP can result in even smaller file sizes and faster loading times compared to JPEG and PNG, but support is limited to certain browsers.

That is an excellent point! When choosing a file format, it is critical to evaluate the tradeoff between picture quality and loading speed. It is also vital to evaluate the picture format's browser compatibility, as certain newer formats may not be supported by all browsers.

To me, webP is the best format to use for website.

Loading speed a great feature of SEO, to greatly improve one's site, an image that offers good quality and faster loading speed is best.

Most of the images you find on free image sites are jpg. Image conversion takes time. Therefore, I suggest you use tools for image optimization.

There are tools that can compress pictures, but the best have to be paid for. You can also create your own images with tools like Canva instead.

To recap, the file format of an image can have a substantial influence on a website's loading speed. JPEG is a suitable option for photos with a lot of colors, but PNG is preferable for photos with less colors and/or transparency. WebP is a contemporary picture format that allows for further reduced file sizes and quicker download times, although it is only supported by a few browsers. When selecting an image file type, it is critical to strike a balance between picture quality and loading time.

JIFF and TIF are future formats in industry. JIFF uses JPEG algorithm for compresion but it does better since losses from original image are less. TIF is made by Adobe and it is specialized for raster type of image. Both formats I see on websites.
