Why do think we have smaller numbers of folks in the investment industry nowadays?

I doubt your observation. I will tell you categorically that more people are into investment that ever. That you are not investing, does not mean that others are not. Recently, the surge in inflation have actually affected the number of people that are investing.
I think this is because inflation is increasing and many investors are reluctant to invest money in a really new investment opportunity that could never prove to be profitable at all.
Lots of people are afraid of any sort of investment right now because you do not want to lose your money because of a lot of scam activities that have flooded the internet and all of them are ripping people off their hard-earned money.
In my country, people are holding on to investing for now because they are waiting for the present government to leave power so they can see if the economy would improve with the next government.
People have not realised that they can make reasonable amount of money on the internet.
In my location, I think there are still a lot of people making investments to beat inflation and grow wealth. They invest in real estates, stocks, mutual funds and bonds. Some people are making good profits.
We need to be extra careful whenever we are working online because there are lot of scandalous activities.
