I recently read an article about Delphi Automotive, they where giants when it comes to auto parts, but they want bankrupt as at around 2005, this was due to some so called powerful customers always demanding for slice in price. How powerful should your customers be in your business? How much rights do they have?

No matter how important a customer is, there are two things you should not tolerate.
One, is customers who always buy on credit and never pay back.
Two, is giving so much discounts you end up running at a loss.

Customers should not determine the price of your goods for you. Business is not a charity organization. If you continue to allow them to control your business, without doubt the business will soon crumble like park's of cards.

As far as I'm concerned, a customer shouldn't have power over a business owner when it comes to finances, and as a business owner you don't just agree to whatever the customer tells you simply because he or she is patronizing you, it will definitely affect your business.

Customers' influence in a firm should be established by the sort of business and its aims. Customers should have the right to expect a high-quality product or service at a reasonable price, as well as to be treated with dignity and civility. Customers should not be permitted to set their own pricing or terms, nor should they be allowed to demand unjustified discounts or other concessions. Finally, the company should do all possible to suit the requirements of its consumers while also preserving its own interests.

Selling at a loss is a no no. The aim is to recover your costs and then some. Customers are very important but not enough to leave you broke and unable to operate.

True but have seen cases where cause the customers are heavy buyer or tend to pay huge amount of money, the business owner is somewhat biased towards them and tend to listen to them.

This is not a good thing. That's the reason why they failed because of such scheme. They should be firm and consider not to downhill just because of being influenced by their customers.

One thing I know is that we should not give our customers all the power so that they will not treat us anyhow in our business.

I don't understand why a business transaction would be a power play between a customer and a seller. If a customer is coming to do power play with me, I am not interested in that. I get my money and go my way.

That is true
Therr are some customers who are always trying to prove that they are smart. It does not make sense to me.

I agree with you. I cannot let them do what they want towards me. I do not believe with the saying "Customers are always right." This is a misnomer phrase that we need to be corrected.

The fact that we say that customers are always right does not mean that they are right in every situation because they are sometimes wrong
