Well, I have done this a couple of times and it helped me with my sales. I once announced that 20 percent of profits will go to the victims of earthquake and interestingly I had a lot os sales.

These are act of kindness and it really goes a long way in building reputation in the society, sometimes, we need to help those in need of our situation is better than theirs and not just leave them that way.
That's right I agree with you. This method is very effective in increasing the company's sales and reputation in the eyes of the general public. Many merchants do such things in my country. There are also those who participate and donate free of charge to disaster victims.
Some companies do this. It is a part of social responsibility that they can give back the blessings to their respective communities. Unfortunately, they cannot sustain it. I do hope that they can continue this matter religiously.
