If you look around everywhere in Nigeria, you would quite be surprised with thev enormous numbers of commercial motorcycle riders popularly called '' okada'' on our roads. Everywhere you find them. They have become the major means of transportation within a state. Several attempts had been bmade by successive governments to ban them but were not successful. They are thriving because our roads networks are not motorable in nature. And finally most areas and locations are not well served with transportation means. The only alternative they have is commercial motorcycles.

But let me ask you, is it a bad way of earning a living? Isn't it viable than joining crime? Transportation is a commercial activity which has a high demand and the people doing it are earning a good livelihood from it.
Well, I do not live in Nigeria. However, the fact of the matter remains that such kind of motorcycles might be popular because they might be sponsored by some big company.
The reason why the government tried placing a ban on okada or commercial cycling was not cause they had anything against it, it was simply due to the risk. There where lots of cases of accidents back then cause most of these okada riders where trying to dominate the roads.
Commercial motorcycling solves some problems for the populace of Nigeria and they love it. It paticularly solves the challenge of traffic congestion and also helps people to access routes hitherto not covered by conventional public transportation system.
An additional reason why motorcycle transportation is increasingly becoming popular is that it enables passengers to quickly move from point x to point y, even during rush hours when there are heavy road traffic jams. This mode of transportation is thus extremely convenient for customers.

Restricting commercial ridersv to particular streets or total overhauling of commercial cycling as the case might be is not the solution. The solution is government must provide enabling friendly business environments.
You don't want to depend on the part of them country where we are looking at it from because there are some parts of Nigeria where cycling is very much popular.
valid points all round, and even more youths are investing on this cause its a lucrative earning job, the fact that we are always on the move on a daily basics gives them more opportunity to thrive
