These days it can be pretty hard to find a job even with the best results. Over here in my location it is a lot easier to get a job when you are related to the boss, or you have someone on the inside. Then there is the issue of tribe, most business owners tend to hire potential employees that are from their tribe.

It's a shame that what you mentioned also happens a lot here, sometimes the boss trusts new employees who are known by company insiders to deal with fraud and theft within the company. I once found a job application letter, even with very good achievements but ended up in the trash.
Jobs are now a matter of connection and I am not even talking about big multinational jobs. I am talking about regular jobs like eateries. A staff in the eatery would recommend someone and the organization would employ. It is not fair in my location.
It depends on the kind of job. There are jobs that require skills and experience. There are jobs that do not require skills but undergo training and there are jobs that hire on the spot if they are in need in a sales industry. Under the table is not applicable in private offices and companies, only in government offices.
This is actually what connection get you in my country because it is going to be very easy for you to get prominent jobs if you have connection to those who have access to the job.
I agree with you it's so unfair that you need to know a person to get a job I noticed that too in KY country if you have connections it's way easier for you to find a job
I think this practice is not now peculiar to a particular country. It is applicable to everywhere in the world. Humans are becoming more self centered these days. And they only pursue their interests.
In general, I would say that hiring is fair in my location. That said, if you have particular connections with the owner or management, you will be given the chance to attend the job interview. Whether you will be hired depends on your qualifications and experience.
Even with superior skills, they still take who is connected. It is the manager that would probably do the interview and recommend to the board. I have seen managers recommend completely incompetent persons who didn't do well in the interview all because they are the ones that brought the person.
In my city and my country at large, he process of recruiting new employees is never fair. For example, in the disciplined forces such as the police service and the military forces, certain candidates are spared the hassle of competing in races, simply because they have been endorsed by powerful figures in government.
