Offering discounts ONLY to regular customers

I have noted with consternation that certain businesses offer discounts ONLY to buyers who are regular customers.
To me, this discriminatory practice is uncalled-for as it may cause buyers who do not benefit from discounts to avoid returning to a business.

What do you think?
How else could a business show gratitude to regular customers without offering such discriminatory discounts?

It is not discriminatory as you so rightly put it. It is rather called a reward for loyalty. You cannot be offering discount to a new customer that you don't even know if he or she would still patronize you next time.

In my location, it is common for companies to offer discounts to customers who have joined the loyalty program. This is a way to reward loyal customers. Sometimes members also get freebies.

I can't be offering discounts to a first time customer. They have to earn it. Those regular customers must have brought many referrals your way and they deserve to get that loyalty discount.

I don't think it is a bad idea because business will mostly seek to reward loyal customers. So they will not offer discount to any customer that just buy from them for the first time

This is a very good strategy in a business as it will give the customer joy to continue patronising and being loyal to you business and products which you sell.

Sure, this is a business strategy that works all the time. no one should be denied a discount and sellers shouldn't try to discriminate among customers whether the buy at any rate

There are times when you have to do that so that you can draw them closer. The way you treat them the first time they buy something from you will determine if they will come back or not

If you want to offer discount in your business, I believe that you should not limit it to any kind of customers but make it available for everyone because it will generally increase your sales and profit making.

Actually, the problem of discounting is a marketing strategy to increase sales, so this returns to the policies of each management or business owner. I do not agree if said as a form of discrimination.

This has nothing discriminatory, it is just one more strategy in which you reward loyalty to encourage people to stay loyal to your business to get discounts, this is currently done by many businesses through loyalty cards and reward points.

When you use discounts to attract new customers, you won't have loyal customers because when once that discount is off, those customers would run back. Give discounts to customers who have stuck with you through thick and thin.

It is not even a bad idea to try to satisfy your customers and to give them discount because that is one major thing that will keep them coming back especially those who buy almost every time

For me, discounts are incentives that loyal customers only should get as a reward for their loyalty. New customers have to prove loyalty to earn discounts. There is even no guarantee that a discount would keep a new customer.

Yeah this is what everyone should know. Discounts are incentives for loyal customers only so new customers have to prove loyalty to earn discounts. too. So it is not a wrong concept.

For the customers it's a very great thing to remain very loyal to one store. This is because you can easily get the loyalty prizes and discounts whenever you shop at the stores.
