An online investment website is not allowing some investors to withdraw the money which they have invested. Has anyone faced a similar problem while investing online, and if yes, what have you done to recover the money invested?

Yes, it has happened to me recently in cryptowin and other members of the forum also with that website, we have a thread discussing this topic, the withdrawals were canceled and all our money disappeared, luckily I did not have much money there.
I do not trust investment websites. I have an investment account with my bank. I use the bank's e-platform to buy and sell stocks. It's safe and convenient to use.
Investing online is risky and it looks like you have been scammed. Let's these serve as lesson to you. Don't invest without proper research and investigation. I have learn my lesson and I don't risk my fund investing online.

Yes, it appears that online investing is extremely risky at present , most of the websites are promising very high returns and they are not paying the investors the money, or even the principal which is invested.
I don't trust anyone online, but that does not stop me from working with them. As far as CryptoWin goes, I seem to have lost 1.6 million Satoshi worth of Active Shares and get no response from support, but I am still working there. I learned a lot from the past experience there and I have 100,000 Satoshi in Active Shares already using free funds I earned there, so I personally have nothing to lose but time.
This is the problem I always have with investment platforms. Why won't they pay me back my money. Honestly, I am finding it hard everyday to trust any investment site I see online. Most of them are scams.
I actually cannot remember the amount of money I have lost online. The money is a lot of money. There was even a time I invested with the last money I had and they refused to pay me. It was so painful
It's up to each individual to set the limits on how much they are willing to lose and still remain active. If I can recover those losses with more activity applied to earning free Satoshi and let them grow, it's all part of the game for me.
I experienced it too when I joined an online casino and won $ 90 , and I told them I'd like to withdraw my win but they didn't grant me. I realized they wanted to get hold of my money in case I failed in the next play. I didn't win again so my money was never sent to my PayPal. 
Is it a scam, or a fluctuation in business that requires patience to overcome? You can not expect anyone to operate a business that is one-sided enough to always pay, even when they are not earning themselves. Sometimes you need to take the time to analyze each individual situation if you want to benefit from the good times when it turns around.
I have not invested any money, just time to earn free Satoshi and help to to grow.
I think one of the thing that is discouraging people like me is that it may take time to earn a lot of money before I can think of reinvesting it on the platform. I hope you understand what I mean by that..

Time has some value which most people do not consider. The same time could be used for other activities like cleaning the house, cooking, investing offline, to make more money, instead of investing online and not getting anything.
