Report to work drunk-possible sanction

What must an employer do once an employee reports to work drunk in broad daylight? It is very unprofessional for an employee to go to work drunk. His attitude will not match with his job description. The people inside the office will surely be in panic. The employee might have attended a short party at lunchtime and drank wine without a break causing him to get drunk. The management must be called to stop the entry of that employee. He might harm the people inside and do something weird to the business materials. I understand that for every business there's a security guard and automatic action will be done to remove the employee and be advised to go home or call his family to assist the drunk family breadwinner. The problem is the sanction that might be imposed by the management, The said employee will surely be reprimanded, and if do it it again, it will be a ground for termination. What do you think is the proper sanction?

The drunk employee may cause so many harms, he may give marked loss to company as by signing on wrong paper as by placing wrong item on delicate place. If he is out of mind then he may cross his boundaries and give harm to any worker. So Management should take serious action against him. Here nothing like this happens and nowhere because wine is ban here and whosoever will do this will guaranteed lose his job.

Yes you're so right if that drunk employee continue working despite drunk he might sign the wrong papers or release wrong goods or attack anyone he believes insulting him despite not. He must be removed as soon as possible.

ln the company that l worked with previously, they had a good way of handling such cases. They dealt with by giving the perpetrators a fortnight suspension which was unpaid.

That was the best sanctioned for your co worker reporting to work drunk. He may harm the people inside and damaged important things. That person must be reprimanded and be given an ultimatum.

No company can tolerate a drunk employee to report to work. This will create annoyance to other staff of the company. The drunk employee should be given severe warning. If s(he) does not show improvement, fire him/her.

There is no company that tolerate a drunk employee to keep on reporting to work that way. That employee must be fired from work.He plays havoc to the comppany's reputation.

It is better to fire a drunkard employee than retain him .He may cause trouble while he is inside the workplace or he may not work but sleep only. What a shame if it happens in an office

I would just seek counselling and therapy for the employee. I won't fire him or her because I might not know the factors that drove him or her into alcoholism. It would only become a problem if it repeatedly happens without end.

That employee must be sent to the hospital for being addicted to wine. If he continues working he might harm the other employees and damage thee business reputation and morale.

It might be possible that is his first time. Some people get so drunk just from their first taste of wine. It is best to only act after you have given a second chance.

There is always a second chance for an offender but if he is doing the same successively he must resign and find his place. I am afraid of drunk person. They're wild and dangerous.

A drunk employee is only wasting the trust of the company and the trust of his co-workers. He is doing nothing but a problem, He better be fired right away, no more reprimand.

I think it depends on the business owner, every business owners have ways they use in managing and running their business. For some, this might mean immediate sacking, while for others they might be suspended from work.

Work suspension might help but if it's successive despite being suspended for a number days, the resolution is to advice the employee to resign so he could avoid penalty from the management.
