They are business transactions that a business need to see a proof of payment before finalizing such business transaction. But some customers cab get theirs lost . As a seller can help out by doing the following

Tell the customers to provide details about the transactions. you can crosscheck with information on your business account to ascertain the true fact.

Asked the customer to provide other proof of payment like presenting the bank statements showing the transaction especially if it was an online payments

You can use the date of the transaction to get the duplicate copy of the said receipt .

Yes the sellers need to keep their record's and use the date of the transaction to get the detail of the transaction sane with using the duplicate copy of the said receipt to track transaction.

But most sellers are just so rude and lazy. I remember some time back I misplaced my receipt, I knew they had a copy of it, so I went back to them. They started complaining about how I was stressing them.

It is not easy to trace transactions without receipts. If I were in sales, I won't even bother tracing such transactions.

In my country, the local government agency in-charge with this matter is requiring the sellers to provide receipts as much as possible. If not, they can be reported and be punished, too.

It is indeed beneficial. Sellers should be responsible in giving receipts as a sign that they are paying taxes. In my country, it is not allowed for them not to issue official receipts.
