There are a lot of sites where you can publish articles and earn, for instance, Hubpages, Medium, Vocal, Publish0x, etc. There are also a lot of sites where you can full length books and earn, for example, Lulu, Smashwords, Barnes and Noble, Amazon etc. You can also offer writing services on platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, etc. and earn from writing. However, the question is how easy is it to make a lot of money by publishing online?

Yes I believe it's very possible to earn big from these sites, I have seen and come across persons who take care of themselves and their families just from this gig. Though it might take time, but I believe with hard work and consistency, it is possible.
I can think of writing books and marketing them on Amazon, where you get enough publicity. You can also sell the hard copies in book stores.

Do you realize, Amazon allows you to publish print books as well. You can sell the same book as an ebook as well as print book. I have published print book on Amazon
There has never been a time when I earned it from the publishing websites you mentioned. Hubpages is something I will give a try. There is an account I have with them, but it is inactive.
