In some countries, they experience an incredibly low turn out of eligible voters for elections. The authorities are considering to make voting mandatory. Do you think it would go against the principles of democracy for voting to be made mandatory?

In some countries, voting is a joke. There is a family that is giving elections to themselves and some figurants that share 1 % election voting between themselves and recommends this person to be voted out.
These are the kinds of things that would make people not to bother voting. Making it mandatory doesn't make sense if the votes of the people do not count in the end.
I think it should be since people must start control politicans. On current rules many people don't go voting but later keep complain about bad situation in country. Maybe some app could help people but then it is bigger possibilty of manipulation.
