Children are meant to grow and gain independence at a certain time. In my African culture, parents take care of kids for a long time. What age do you think a child should be independent and the parents stop taking care of him or her?

In my humble opinion it is age 18. This age can already vote in an election to mean they're already mature and can decide on what is best for their future

In my country, the legal age is 18 not to be taken care of by their biological parents. However, the love of parents cannot resist the urge to continue giving assistance to them, especially financially.

While all the opinions here are very valid and correct. In African culture, if you don't break free by yourself, it would suddenly dawn on you that you are 35 and still dependent on your parents because our parents don't get tired of taking care of us.

I feel parents should stop taking care of a child once the child starts to earn some money for him or herself. Some people are lucky to start earning on time while some people are not very lucky

18 is the legal age of becoming an adult, so that would be ideal. It’s typically not that simple though. You don’t want to push them out of the nest into until you’re certain they can fly.

A child still remains your child, and a parent would always want to care for them. They might even be at their 40s but to the parent, it's still their child and would want to care for them anyhow they can.

As soon as children start working and become financially independent, they should no longer depend on financial support from their parents. However, some parents are generous enough to continue helping their children even after starting their own families.

As I can say parents continue taking care of their children as long as they live but letting go from the parents house should be the child responsibility to see how he has grown and has to depend on himself

Yes, that's in our country and we also have an extended family culture. The children even at age 18 still depend on their parents.

Young people in my country prioritize their studies and age 18 isn't capable to stand on their feet. They're still under the supervision of the parents perhaps after graduation in college and get a job.
