For some of us that have staff working with us in our businesses, it is not really surprising to see staff incur shortages to the business either by commission or omission.

How do you handle such instances of financial shortage caused by staff in your business?

it all depends on the contract you have with that staff and also the kind of work environment they are in. for example if you employ a family member without any legal binding contract that states the terms and conditions, they might get away free from any responsibility

I agree with you. It can still be evaluated if the human resource department conducted performance evaluation. They are the ones who are going to call their attention to enhance or improve their existing soft skills.

It depends on the profit margin of the business, small amounts can be written off, larger amounts are usually recovered.

If the shortage is quite small and it is something that I would overlook, I would do. If it is a huge shortage, the staff would have to pay from their salary.
