I agree with you, never enter the crypto world if you don't know about it, because you don't have a candle to be your light, and to guide your way.
I have no personal experience with crypto currency. I have always stayed away from it as it seemed very unclear to me. And without having enough understanding, I prefer not to jump into such trading which as such has a lot of risk potential. My only experience with cryptos was earning it through one site and then sending it to one of other user who sent me cash in PayPal for that. My stay on the site was for few months as I didn't enjoy it much and earning there was not clear to me
Whatever I learnt from reading and conversations on the forums about cryptocurrency, many feel the same way likr you. They validate that investment in crypto market should not be done for short term gains. They are profitable in a long term and should be seen as long term investment.
