When we talk about investments, our minds usually goes to the aspect of investing our capital in a particular business or company that would in turn generate profits. hence most persons only considers things that would generate instant profit as investment. What about when a person invest in their career? Lets say a person decides to buy new courses to Improve on their skills or decides to learn a new skill, can this also be seen as a profitable investment?
Can investing in one's career be considered as investment?

I consider invest in career an investment. I am a freelancer working on translation. I'm constantly looking for ways to improve my translation skill such as reading translated version of books; I joined HK Translation Society for networking; I also keep and update my professional profile in Linkedlin.
Investment in one's career should be considered as good investment. We need to update our skills, knowledge base about our careers. Every career is improving and advancing towards perfection. If you want to stay static, your business will lose relevance and value.
Anything you choose to put something into is an investment in my eyes. So if you put something into your career that will better your career then that is an investment and should be seen as one. It doesn't always have to be money either, it can be learning something new that helps you bring something else to your business that can be an investment as well.
For me, investing in my career is an investment I take seriously and never play with. So yes, investing in your career can be considered as investment.
Why do you think people get a loan to complete their university education? Well investing in education and training is the best investment you can make because investing in market might go waste, but investing in knowledge and skills will always pay.
When you invest in your career, you are preparing yourself for a better way to make money because right now, you need a professional level skill to sail through the saturated niches online.
