Earning through online Url shortener

I once ventured in the URL shorteners gigs after reading a very positive review on one of the most popular URL shorteners across the web.
To my surprise it didn't worked out for me. I tried and tried like other three URL shorteners but still couldn't work out for me.
What can you say on this?

I won't advise anyone to try making money with paid url shorter because I have tried it many times but failed. But if the person has lots of audience, then it can be profitable for the person

The feeling is mutual. I tried but did not continue because of boredom issue.

I have not been using link shortners because when you use them. A lot of unnecessary ads will be popping up and you could get banned on any platform that are using it.

I have heard about this times without number, most people have talked about how they are making money form it, but is it a good way to make money? How does it work?

If you can actually send visitors to an url shortner, why not try something better, for instance affiliate marketing, rather than trying to earn form URL shortner. This is one of the most difficult ways to make money.

Its one of the hardest ways to earn but I know some that are earning from it and also from affiliate marketing
