Is the purpose of fashion shows to sell clothes or are they simply a method of advertising the designer’s name?

I think they are there mainly to push a designer's line towards the public, regardless of the taste of design.

A lot of the designs you see at fashion shows are really a form of wearable art that’s focused on beauty, innovation and not so much functionality. The clothes sold in stores are often practical toned-down versions of what you see on the runway.

They are actually embarking on both selling clothes and selling their brand name because they embark on advertisement to create brand awareness as well.

Fashion shows have different purposes, one, to promote the clothing, two, to promote the designer, and three to showcase the products. Sometimes fashion shows are nothing but the display of installation art.

I believe it is just to advertise the designers name, cause truth be told most of the cloths you see them wear during this fashion shows are not something you would see people wearing on a regular basis.

You also have to advertise clothes to the kind of people that will need the kind of clothes that you sell because it is not possible to advertise clothes that is meant for young people to old people
