An Outline

Any member who is willing to participate positively in our community will have every opportunity to do so. This being said, all members must follow our rules, our rules are in place to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone using our website. Appreciation incentives will be given to members who follow the rules and conduct themselves here on RIF in a professional manner. We require that all members be treated with the same amount of respect and appreciation, this means that all members and RIF staff must treat every member with the utmost respect and professionalism. If you feel as if you are not receiving the same amount of treatment as another member, it is your duty to reach out to forum administration or our moderation team as soon as possible.

The age requirement to join RIF is 13 years old. This being mentioned, all members are old enough to understand the concept of "right and wrong." We ask that you use your own common sense and personal thought process to produce positive interactions here on RIF. We will not tolerate members who decide to choose "wrong" and create content that is harmful to RIF members or the community as a whole. This means your interactions here on RIF should be professional and constructive, any interactions that are unprofessional or family friendly will not be tolerated. You can read more about these specific requirements later on in this post.

Posting Rules and Guidelines

Before we go over our 'Posting Rules and Guidelines' we must inform you of what a 'post' is. A post is basically any form of communication here on RIF, this can be a reply to an existing thread (topic), a new thread (topic), private messaging, profile status updates, etc. Anything that you type and add to RIF is considered a 'post.'

[PRG - 1] When writing a post, please try to use the best English grammar that you can (creating private messages are exempt from this). We understand that English grammar can be difficult for some people, so we will remain lenient with this guideline. If you create a post that cannot be understood, we may remove it without notice. Please make sure that you are communicating as effeciently as you can. If you are unable to meet our standards of English grammar and understanding, we may have to moderate your posts and/or place you under supervised posting privledges.

[PGR - 2] When creating a post, we do not permit short messages. You should write in length that fully expresses what you are writing about. Posts that contain one or two words will be deleted without notice. If you are going to contribute to the community, we ask that you do so in a way that will express your complete thoughts. Some exceptions may be granted by the moderation team if your post is relevant to the topic at hand.

[PGR - 3] As mentioned in [PGR - 2], posts must be relevant to the topic at hand. Members who are posting disrespectful, or in other words, rude content, will not be tolerated. Where we do allow ocassional profanity, we do not allow excessive profanity, meaning if you constantly use curse word after curse word in the same post, it will not be tolerated. In addition, we will not tolerate 'hijacking', or in other words, attempting to take over a specific topic for your own personal use. If you have another purpose or reason as to why you need to 'control' the topic, you are welcome to create a new thread altogether.

[PGR - 4] Content that is very violent or harmful, explicit, sexual, hateful, threatening, harassing, or unlawful may never be included in a post, if a member is found to have included any of those things in a post, immediate action will be taken. Secondly, we do not permit spamming or trolling. Lastly, all content being posted to RIF must be appropriate for all audiences 13 years of age and older. You must follow our acceptable content policy and all other official policies as well.

General Guidelines

[GG - 1] Inappropriately advertising will be considered spam. If you plan to advertise on RIF, you must advertise in the appropriate areas. Advertising in your account signature is allowed. Advertising via our personal messaging system is not allowed. RIF reserves the right to remove any advertising content, ban members who do not follow these regulations, and ban specific websites or content from being advertised; all of these can be conducted at anytime without notice.

[GG - 2] As a forum, we offer many different website functions and capabilities. These functions and capabilities that we offer are only to be used in the ways that they were intended, attempting to use the functions and/or capabilities in any other way is prohibited. Reputation, Reactions, Awards, Profiles, and Posts are all examples of forum content that cannot be bought or sold. You may not, once again, abuse any function (ex. spam the post reports function).

[GG - 3] We do not allow impersonation of staff members. Trying to rule or control members of RIF is prohibited and will not be tolerated. If you find a member in violation of our guidelines, please use the 'report' function or contact an administrator or a member of our moderation team directly.

[GG - 4] Please respect all specific forum section guidelines (if applicable) and any notices you may receive from an administrator or moderator. You are expected to assist in the moderation processes of the forum.

[GG - 5] All staff members of Referral Index Forum take moderation practices very seriously. If you are ever in violation of our guidelines a staff member from our administration or moderation team will reach out to you with a simple of description of what you have violated. If you have any questions, you are eligible to request additional details, and we will help provide you with a detailed description and when, why, and how. We promise that all moderation processes are independently reviewed, assessed, and given with complete fairness.

[GG - 6] You are permitted to use the account signature function that RIF offers. However, please refrain from adding images or content that look unnatural and stretch or deform the website in any way. If your signature causes disruptions to the appearance or quality of RIF, your signature will be removed or altered without notice.

[GG - 7] For security purposes, please do not distribute your personal information such as address, phone number, social security, or any other form of personal identification to any user on RIF. Moderation Policy

To ensure a fair and honest process for all members of Referral Index Forum, we have a very specific way our moderation process works. Below you will find our moderation policies, and they apply to all RIF members.

  • Minor Offense
    • Consists of: advertising in the wrong areas, posting short messages that do not contain valuable information, and other small things that don't cause harm to other members of the community.
    • This will result in a verbal warning via our personal messaging system.
  • Moderate Offense
    • Consists of: spamming, arguing, duplicate accounts, negativity towards members or staff, and anything considered disrespectful or uncalled for but doesn't overall harm the members of the community.
    • This will result in a very detailed verbal warning via our personal messaging system. If you are caught with two moderate offenses you may receive an official warning on your account.
  • Extreme Offense
    • Consists of: Phishing, scamming, hacking, member abuse, and overall things that do cause harm to members of the community.
    • At a minimum, this will result in an official warning on your account.
  • Loss of Privileges
    • If an administrator or moderator of RIF believes you are disrupting the community in a particular way, we reserve the right to remove access to certain functions and features. You will be notified before such loss of privileges is taken.
  • Temporary Bans
    • We reserve the right to temporarily and permanently ban a member depending on the severity of the issues at hand. Fortunately, this is the last resort, and will only happen after a minimum of 2 warnings are given. We want to provide you with the courtest to correct your actions before completely removing you from our platform.
This basically sums up our moderation policy. If you believe you have been treated or punished unfairly by a member of our moderation team, please reach out to an administrator or the moderation team leader for further assistance.

Moderation Policy Update for Spam
10/16/2022

Due to the increase in spam across the forums, we are updating our moderation policy for [PGR - 4] of our forum guidelines.

Forum spam consists of posts on Internet forums that contain related or unrelated advertisements, links to malicious websites, trolling and abusive or otherwise unwanted information. Forum spam is usually posted onto message boards by automated spambots or manually with unscrupulous intentions with intent to get the spam in front of readers who would not otherwise have anything to do with it intentionally. In other words, spam is something that does not contribute to the forum in a positive or beneficial way.

Here are a few examples of spam:
◦ "Good information. Thanks."
◦ "Thank you for sharing"
◦ "Okay."
◦ "Life is a box of chocolates."

In the examples above, none of those posts will positively contribute to the community. Any posts that do not give other members an opportunity to respond to further the discussion can be considered spam.

Here is our new moderation policy for spamming the forums.

1st Offense
◦ Written Warning via Private Messaging
◦ Permanent moderator notation on your account

2nd Offense
◦ Written Warning via Private Messaging
◦ 1 Warning Point (expires after three months)
◦ Permanent moderator notation on your account
◦ $0.25 will be debited from your account
◦ Lose your placement in any contest(s) you have been participating in

3rd Offense
◦ Written Warning via Private Messaging
◦ 2 Warning Points (expires after six months)
◦ Permanent moderator notation on your account
◦ $0.50 will be debited from your account
◦ Limited account access.
◦ Lose your placement in any contest(s) you have been participating in

4th+ Offense(s)
◦ Written Warning via Private Messaging
◦ 3 Warning Points per additional offense (expires after one year)
◦ Permanent moderator notation on your account
◦ 50% or $1.00 will be debited from your account per offense (whichever is higher)
◦Limited account access.
◦ Lose your placement in any contest(s) you have been participating in
◦ Lose the ability to participate in any future contest(s)

** We reserve the right to alter this moderation policy at any time for any reason, without notice. Moderators and administrators also receive the right to skip offense levels depending on each unique situation. **
