You do the right thing by not going out with too much cash. The thing is that when once you go out with plenty money without self discipline you would over spend.I also struggle with this most times, what I normally do is not carry much cash at hand when going out, I only carry what I need for transport for that day and maybe a little extra to buy snacks when hungry during working hours.

It's not really bad getting something needed in the future now. It saves money because stuffs do get costlier with time. I prefer buying food stuffs like that.It does happen at times that I like to buy a thing just because it may be useful in the future so this sort of things should be avoided
