This has always kept me wondering how Spotify and other streaming sites earn money. Do artists pay them to host their music on their site? Who can clarify how streaming sites earn their money?

Like someone rightly said, it's through premiums subscription. I can't pay but so many people world over would.
Yeah they do make their. money from subscribers and the ads posted on the site.

If the whole world was full of Nigerians and a site needs to be subscribed to remove ads, that site would not get revenue. Nigerians would manage the ads as it is.

Apart from sponsored contents and subscription, ads is a major way through which streaming platforms make money. They charge brands and businesses to run ads for them on their videos and get paid.
Netflix for instance makes money mainly from subscriptions because it has contents that are highly demanded world over. I think if the content is rich, subscription earnings alone is enough to drive a streaming platform to profitability. B
