If your parents have a particular course in mind for you that is completely different from what you want, i think the best thing to do would be to have a talk with them. Calmly discuss with them, give legit reasons why you feel the course of your choice is best for you.

I think parents can only play an advisory role. If the profession you choose is not supported by your parents, you should explain to them why you pick the profession.
I did not have such an experience. My choice is the course I took in college. If that happens to anyone, I suppose all they have to do is explain to their parents why they chose the course they did.
