How to deal with powerful people slandering, defaming you?

Some extremely powerful people are very greedy and want to rob the resume, savings of professionals, investors from poorer communities. So they are slandering, criminally defaming the honest hardworking investor, making up fake stories without any kind of legally valid proof. What is the best way to deal with slander, fake allegations?

Am not really sure how to handle people like this but I feel it would be a lot better to take legal actions on this

If they are very powerful, there is no way you can actually deal with them. You can just ignore them and pretend that they don't exist. Or maybe you can go for legal actions

I have never been through this before, and I hope I never have to deal with something like this in the future. I think it is best to take legal action against them and file a lawsuit.
