when you are freelancing, don't just focus on that because its not easy getting gigs especially if you are a newbie because being a newbie to them its taking a risk on you by giving you gigs. Try other channels like website testing, transcribing, ptp sites and if need be also micro jobs, that way while you are still fighting competition on freelancing sites you are still making money on other sites.

Employers when focusing to employ someone search for old profiles like someone registered since 4 or 5 years and neglect new ones. This will discourage you from continue as for several months you will get your gig not ordered and even not seen from people.
