But before I could get paid he had to flee the country for whatever reason.
Lesson learnt. Then on I started taking some advance amount as even a talk can result into ideas.

Did he execute your ideas? I mean did he use your design for his project? If not you can still use the same design with another client

I am not aware of that. Different Sites need different concepts depending on the size, the location and their budget. When it comes to ideas I like creating them and as I said no idea can be repeated.

You don't give out free ideas just like that. Always ensure that you have gotten some kind of payments before releasing your ideas to anyone.

When you take an advance you are paid for those verbal ideas and when the budget is approved a finall lay out is prepared and more advance is taken.

I’m glad you were able to learn a lesson. It isn’t nice to give out ideas just like that. It is even sad that you give out ideas to some scents in people and they don’t even credit you for the idea you have given them

For me that's the only reason as to why l would not accept such deals before the deposit for money.

If in the end he used your ideas, you have every right to sue him, as long as you have details to backup your claim. Then again it's a good lesson. Some of those customers are heartless. This is why it's best to take payments before the job.

You should request some contract and define some terms. Like if he uses anything later he must pay or you will sue him. This way he can't use your ideas if he don't think pay you.
