There are definitely varying opinions on this topic. Personally, I think that monopolies can have both positive and negative effects depending on the industry. For example, in the case of utilities like water or electricity, a monopoly may be necessary in order to ensure efficient distribution and maintenance of services. Yet, in industries like telecommunications or cable, monopolies can lead to a lack of competition and stifle innovation.

It is not a good thing. I only seen this situation and a typical example in China. Most businesses were controlled by them. It means that it is difficult to have business with them.
