It sounds weird to self-audit in planning for his or her own business. Actually, we need to consider to prevent from having over expenses. We do not want to have a big problem if not doing it.
Self examination is the most important aspect of any business. An entrepreneur must check if he has what it takes before starting a business. Self audit is very important because it will be suicidal to engage in business you can not be able to manage
if planning means your business isn't running yet, if your business is already running you can use a budget as a means of controlling your expenses, you can evaluate costs every month or every 3 months.
Self audit could not properly give the correct financial status of a business. External audit should be carried out as well in order to confirm the reports of the internal audit.
I dont think it is weird in any way cause the truth be told, no one can do it better than you as long as it's yours. There are certain things you would notice that the next person might not.
