I see a lot of website owners buying websites and then merging these websites with their own websites. They are doing this for two reasons, one, to create a bigger website (with a lot of content, and a lot of members, in case of a forum), and two, to have better traffic and revenue (they divert traffic from sites they bought to their own website). Have you ever merged your website?

I remember way back when I started Chat Addicts which was a general discussion forum, I attempted a merge with another forum and as much as I was happy with the merge, it never worked out the way we hoped and we both ended up going our separate ways with our forums.

After we did that I built up Chat Addicts and it was one of my most successful forums before I closed it in 2017.

What was biggest problem with merge? Technical details, revenue share or idea how to run forum? Maybe it is to personal question but I would like ot know it in general.

We found the merge itself was a success but after the merge, people didn't want to be active on the forum like they were and that resulted in a lack of activity which was a shame. Both forums were the same niche and it meant that we expanded the forum with more content but members for some reason were not happy and that was something the resulted in us making the decision to go our separate ways.

Thanks for sharing informations. It is really weird behavior for users if they were from same niche. But people are weird so this is possible to. You just can't know until you done it.

This is very true, we took a chance and it didn't work out and going our separate ways was a better option for us both.

We now both co-own a forum and we both run another forum as well which are slowly building up :)

I think I agree with your reasons. Merging websites can be for the reasons of creating a bigger website that has a lot of content, and to have better traffic too

I can’t say I’ve ever merged any of my websites. I’ve typically just allowed them to operate as separate entities.
