No Overtime Pay: What?!?

I had a Business English class with my student today. We were talking about overtime pay. Surprisingly, she and her colleagues are not paid if having overtime in their company. In fact, all Chinese companies do not pay their workers overtime. It is not a good thing for me because this is forbidden in our labor code.

In my location, most companies do not pay employees for their overtime work. This particularly applies to employees in supervisory or management positions. Some junior staff may get paid working overtime.

Even in my home country a lot of companies do not pay for overtime. Overtime pay is available for blue collar workers, though.

Well that's how it is in most parts. They do not pay you over time for your efforts which is pretty annoying. I remember where i used to work, there are days i would be at the office up to 10pm yet we get notting for it.

When I ask to do overtime before I answer I ask first if there's overtime pay and if there's none I won't do. There's only overtime pay during holidays if required to work pay is double.

There is no overtime pay in my country whether you work in private or government establishments. There can be allowances for things like travelling or special tasks, but that's it.

Most of the companies are doing this right now and it needs urgent attention because when you work extra time, you're supposed to be paid.
