Which is better and why - own website or sub-domain blog?

I think it depends on what type of blog you're running. If it's a personal one, having a subdomain is fine but if it's a professional blog then I think a TLD would be better.

I think having a TLD would be better when it comes to monetization. Subdomains make affect your SEO, and you could have less traffic coming to your site.

It is better to invest money in a domain and have your own website, the monetization options are more for website with its own domain.

I use subs and free ones too, have used a TLD before, I’ve found it pretty useless for me personally at least anyways.

In the first year sub domain to avoid hosting prices but when comming popular you upgrade plan to have a domain name.

Owning a website is best especially if you're professional or want to do business with it. However, if you're just out for fun or you want to test out something, a sub domain is fine.

I have over two dozen websites. I once had subdomain websites. That was befor I bought my first domain.
