Should hosting companies provide site migration for free?

When you decide to migrate from one hosting company to another, who takes care of the migration process? Do you ask your new hosting provider to perform the migration for you or do you do it yourself?

They could provide for example 1 year hosting for free or reduction on price of hosting for first year then order additional one year hosting with regular price this is what they are doing these days.

I would not say that they should provide the Migration for free but they can give discounts especially for people who have been making use of that hosting platform for more than a year. They should be treated as customers

In half of cases you could get even one year domain name for free then back to regular price so for example if hosting is 6 $ per month and domain name is 20 $ then the domain name is 0 $ for one year and hosting plan is 5,7 $ per month then 5 % discount for example to retain you as future customer so you pay at least one year hosting + hosting plan with discounts as example for more detailling.

Most of them do give discounts but I never see one hosting company that do migration for free. There is a lot of competition in the hosting industry, perhaps some may use free migration to attract customers.

These discounts are purpose because you are new customer and will pay monthly hosting with them but migration for free is not for their favor that is why they does not do.

There are a lot of hosting companies that offer website migration for free. If that is not being offered to you, you can easily move your site from one host to another host through FTP or plugins

Of course yes. They say in business that most people would go for the businesses that offer some good affordable deals at all times. For instance the hosting provider that would offer the migration service for free would attract more people.

No website offers 100 % migration free like you have to order 1 year of hosting and then get a 50 % reduction for another second year of hosting to migrate for their service as per my remark.

While free site migration is appealing for customers, hosting providers incur real costs for moving data and ensuring successful transitions. Some base level of migration help seems reasonable, but extensive services are not sustainable without fees. A balanced compromise could promote goodwill while enabling healthy business.
