In the digital world does one still require a shorthand typist/Secretary to assist a Manager? To my mind a Manager can handle everything himself from writing his own mail and sending it to recepients. Same with the filing. They can store their work in digital folders.

What is your thought on this?

Around 25 years there was a demand of computer operators and typists but not now a days when mostly people are skilled in typing and computer.

The requirements for staff depends on company and the job. A manager in a manufacturing business need different skills compared to a manager in retailer business.

In my view, the job responsibilities will be based on the company's guidelines and the Human Resource Department is responsible of orienting the employees about the respective requirements to do their jobs. It is a standard procedure that needs to be done by them.
