What can a person do to lessen the impact of culture shock before traveling abroad?

In the modern world, it is easier to know more about people, culture, and practices to other countries. In this way, we can tell if wanting to visit the country or not. At least, if it is acceptable the standard norms there, then culture shock would not be experienced or in a big deal.

It's good to travel if know the culture of the people like in New Zealand people there are not smiling unlike us hehe.

I always do some research about the place I am going to visit. I would take note of any taboos, the culture and the foods available there.
