There are so many models that are used to determine the market share of an industry. The most common method is Unit Based Method which determines market share by counting the quantity of a product that a company sells and relates it with combined sales of other companies selling the same product.

Even if a business documents all it's sales of a particular product line it can't determine it's market share. It is the industry that determines the market share of a company. It is a statistical variable.
