It's a very important duty and earlier my dad was making all the decisions and taking suggestions from my mom and now I try to contribute as much as I can and it should be as per the knowledge so if you are good at a thing then definitely it's decision should be based on your knowledge.

I think when we are mature enough we should make our own decisions if our parents making any decisions but yes many times the elder siblings do make decisions

I am the main decision maker in my family. LOL When there was an offer to move house, everyone asked my opinion. If I say "Yes" then we will move, and conversely if I say "no" then we will not move. Likewise for buying household goods, I am the main decision maker to manage everything.
