Ransomware is a type of malware (software) designed to attack or block files and documents stored on computers by encrypting files or documents, so they cannot be opened/accessed by the data owner, before the hacker receives a ransom in the form of Bitcoin or crypto. other. Some of the well-known ransomware are CryptoLocker, Doxware, WannaCry, and Petya.

On May 8, 2023, a local Indonesian bank, Bank Syariah Indonesia, was hit by a ramsomware attack by LockBit, so that bank employees could not access customer data/files.

What I didn't know and has always been my unanswered question until now, why do hackers always ask for ransoms in Bitcoin or other crypto?

That's a disaster that ransomware is more than deadly. Our university's website was attacked by ransomware 5 years ago and the website was attacked. The hackers demand substantial amount but they never prospered. The hackers failed because our university is owned by the national government and hired the best webmaster and it was restored. I don't have idea why the hackers demand bitcoin or crypto.

Ransomware attacks to encrypt data, and if hackers don't get a ransom, data and information will usually be sold on the dark web, so that badman can use important information to apply for online loans.
