You are a senior staff in an organization and you have served for years in different capacities to help the organization grow.

And you have risen to be second in command in the organization's leadership ladder, possibly primed to take over the top position when a vacancy surfaces.

To your greatest surprise, a younger staff that is barely two years old in the organization is elevated by the owner or the board to take over the leadership when a vacancy is available for General manager.

Would you still continue working with the company and deputizing for the junior colleague now your boss or you would resign?

It makes no sense to have a junior colleague be promoted to the position of a manager after the hard work you've put in but it is not enough reason for you to resign because sometimes grace can locate anybody at any position they are.

Won't it mess up with your sanity to be answerable to a staff that is way your junior? You would need mental strength at immense quantity to be able to continue working in that kind of organization.

Depends on the situation surrending the turn of events. If its a situation where they have a legit reason as to why they made such decision and the said junior staff is actually someone that is reasonable, I really do not mind. But in a situation where there is foul play here. I think i would leave once i secure a better job.

That is why you are a staff of the organisation as if the promotion of the junior staff would healed prophet to the organisation then you just have to follow through with it even if it is not the right way of doing things.

It is not easy my brother. I would just feel very depressed and betrayed. If I would resign depends on so many other factors. But one thing is sure, I I would strongly consider resignation.

I would not resign. I would find out what makes him better than me. I would work extra hard to earn my own promotion. Resigning is borne out of jealousy and its just like accepting defeat so no I would not resign

You would just have to accept your fatw that after all the years put in, you would never have an opportunity to call the shots in an organization you have labored to build. If I don't resign, I would consider early retirement sometime after the dust has settled.

I would not resign. I would try to work cordially with the person. I just hope that they will not be tussle of power though. We just have to respect one another

You are on point, it is not enough reason to resign if you don't have another work to do or a side business you can engage in, you just need to accept that fact as that's what the management wishes to do and do your work the right way so there won't be any issue .

Fir me this is not a good enough reason for anyone to resign when you are yet to have another work to do. I would rather cordially work with the person

honestly speaking without a side hustle or business that you run this kind of incidents should not make you to resign and stop working but rather you show some support to even the junior colleague that is now in a better position than you are for the organisation and see if it will take things forward.

Then problem is that we just like managing situations even when those situations mess with our mental health. I would start planning my resignation if the situation makes me have malicious thoughts.

Well it is good that you plan your resignation the moment you feel that there is a certain kind of malicious thoughts going on in your mind about the work place and the position but not everyone has a problem with such a thing.

Mate, sometimes managing situations even when those situations mess with our mental healthis better than being jobless. You wouldn't even think straight when you are hungry and just rent expired without any financial help

If a junior colleague is promoted above you in a business setting, it is most likely because he is doing well more than you are doing and you have yourself to be blamed for it.

Yes there's no two ways about it. There's something about the junior worker that must have given the person that advantage so it is not what you should just resign about.

Did you get my point at all? I would start planning my exit from such an organization doesn't mean I would quit immediately but I am surely going to quit sooner than later. I always love my mind to be free while I do anything including work.

It is a subjective thing you know. Some people can actually stand it, work in that situation and retire with an excellent record. For me, it would mess up with my head and affect my work.
