I don't see a doctor when I have a cough. I go to a chemist and ask for the medicine from him. I don't think it's a good idea to spend big amount of money for a doctor's consultation. I have seen many people who don't hesitate to spend money for the consultation fees of doctor even for small things.

ahhh why should i? except it is a hard cough. there is home remedy for me. ginger and garlic inside honey will do magic.
I usually check with the pharmacist and buy cough syrup. I also have ginger tea which helps sometimes. If the situation worsens, I go to see a doctor.
I have an asthmatic trait. That's why I don't take cough lightly. I always go to the doctor for cough and it doesn't happen frequently.
