Do you go to a doctor when you have cough?

I don't see a doctor when I have a cough. I go to a chemist and ask for the medicine from him. I don't think it's a good idea to spend big amount of money for a doctor's consultation. I have seen many people who don't hesitate to spend money for the consultation fees of doctor even for small things.
