Alphabet fires 12k staff

Alphabet Inc., the US business giant and parent company of Google, has just laid off 12k workers. This is another example of tech jobs losing their attraction.

I read the same in the news yesterday. It's a sad news as 12k staff will be fired which will affect lots of people.

Twelve thousand workers to be laid off just like that?. Has Alphabet considered the effect this would have on the dependent relatives of those supposedly sacked?.

This kind of massive sack would have a negative impact on the economy. If these are tech people that just got sacked, then let's prepare for a rise in the incidence of hacking and issues that have to do with Cyber security.

That's making the headlines. It's not only Alphabet, many firms including Google are downsizing. Twitter made the similar kinds of headlines some times back. It went for massive downsizing and laid more than half of their staff. Elon Musk had to face legal action for that massive layoff and took back few of the employees who were laid.

Either Alphabet fired 6% or more, what matters most is the level of gratuity paid to those workers. They shouldn't just layed them off without provisions.

12k is to much? How many are remaining? The economy is shrinking and many giants companies are trying to reduce their size thereby costing costs. It is absolutely unbelievable

This news is very sad because 12k is too much these all unemployed people will take time to adjust they will have no option but to put load on both online and offline jobs.

They could be contractual employees who are there to work for a particular project and once the project is over the employment is terminated.

One can only imagine what does staff would be going through right now, especially the ones having families and they are relying solely on just that job. What was their reason for laying them off though?

12k staff fired? That is terrible. That means the unemployment rate keeps increasing and most people that are supposed to be productive can't be. We need to focus and advocate the concept of job security.

We keep hearing about this downsizing and firing more and more these days. While the big brands like Meta, Google, Twitter etc make a big news, the little players too are downsizing. There is hiring also going on but much less compared to the downsizing. It's not a good time for world economy and I am surs with AI advancements, we are sure to see worse days.
