So many bosses don't know that a simple word like 'thank you' can do wonders to the psyche of a staff. Showing concern for a staff can motivate the staff.

Not just as business owner than as coworker to. Maybe you will need similar stuff one day. Also it is good have somebody you can rely on work. But still be careful and don't follow in situation when others take advantage of you in name of empathy.

Yes, I totally agree with you. If a company leader has good empathy, it will make workers feel comfortable, valued, cared for, and so on. So that it will make them loyal to the company, and provide the best performance.

I do think that managers need to empathize when dealing with this or her subordinates at work. If not, how can he or she win the trust of these people. Sympathize is not the ideal way to handle them.
