In some countries, they do not mind if you call them with their first names. As for me, I am not comfortable saying this. I prefer to say sir or ma'am and followed by his or her first name. I do believe that in the United State of America, they tend to practice this. How about in your country? How do you address your boss or bosses?

I tthink you already have posted a topic like this on how to call our bosses hehe. Well it's a commonsense wise to call a boss Sir if male and Ma'am of female unless the boss wants to be called by her name.

In Nigeria particularly, it is in our culture to practice respect. This is apply in our daily activities. We regard it as forms of disrespect or lack of home charity to address someone by their first name. So address your bosses here, you must include 'sir or ma' to him or her.

As for me, there is nothing to worry about this matter. It is my habit to address the people with sir or ma'am. It is a good way to show respectful and professional I am to these people.

I used to address my boss as boss but he warned him not to address him that way. He asked me to address him by his name.

For me though i simply call them sir. While there others in my work place who call them bros then there are the younger ones who call him by his nickname.

I guess we need to consider what is being requested. As for me, I do not usually go along with the request. Since I am used to addressing the person as sir or ma'am, it is the safest way not to create an issue of disrespecting.

I am generally a respectful person and I call my boss Sir. When I am in a relaxed mood, I call him boss man. Some bosses are so free that they don't mind what you call them.

You are very correct about that and it's actually more comfortable for you to have someone that you are working for who is a free person that is not going to uptight all the time.

I also addressed my bosses as sir or ma'am in my previous jobs. I am not used to calling them with their first names. I will surely feel uncomfortable doing this.

I work in a factory packing tomatoes and peppers part time, we call everyone by their first names, including the bosses on the shop floor.

I don't think I have ever worked anywhere where I haven't called my boss by his/her first name

In Nigeria especially Yorubaland, it is regarded uncultured and immoral to call your boss by his name. Bosses are always addressed ''sir or ma'' without adding his name. Everything here is done on respect manner. Junior worker found to be insubordinate would be sanctioned.

I am calling her with title even we are good in private (before more, now less) and she told I can call her with first name. I did it one night when I was drunk but I am not planning any more.

The most important thing for you to do is to make sure that you are addressing your superior or your boss according to how they want to be addressed, otherwise you are going to have a problem with them.

Na real problem o. Office etiquette must be followed in addressing the bosses. Though the nature of each individual bosses matters. There are some who don't care how you address him while there are some who are so brutal.
