How do you discipline an apprentice that comes to the shop late?

When we have an apprentice, one of our responsibilities apart from imparting skills is to also impart the ethical values that would help them succeed in the trade in the future.

For an apprentice that comes to the shop late, what do you think is the appropriate punishment to give to deter him or her from coming to shop late?

In my place, such an apprentice is always told to kneel down at the roadside beside the shop for some time. The embarrassment would serve as deterrent.
