How do you get to choose the profession of your choice when you are not supported by your parent?

My parents wanted me to finish Bachelor of Laws but I followed my dream to graduate a course of my preference which is Bachelor of Science in Physics minor in Mathematics. Then my dad didn't complain at all. I did take the entrance exam for Bachelor of Laws but I hate to spend 6 hours reading everyday about Constitution and memorize them no way, lol.
Some parents dont really listen when you try and explain yourself. They want you to do what they want since they have your whole life planned out. I have seen some people going to an extend of going against their parents to do what they want which causes a massive bridge between them and kills their relationship. It takes a lot to do that.
I do know in some cultures, following the career advice of parents and extended family is the thing; so doing what is asked by them, would be recommended.
In cases where the individual is going after a job or career that might not be a good decision that parents would object to, sometimes it is good to explain why the choice was made; and at other times it would be wise to put in boundaries to make sure that that conversation doesn't come up in the future. That could be telling them that you will not discuss the topic with them, or even going to the extreme of not talking to them in general, in order to avoid the conversation.

My father passed away when I was only 11. I wish he lived longer so that he could give me some advice. My mother gave us a free hand in choosing our profession.
