The best way to stop losing your staff to your competition is to make sure your Staff are loyal to your organization. When a staff is completely loyal to a particular organization, he or she won't work for the competitor even after he has left your organization.
If you take good care of your workers and make sure that you pay them very well and also provide a very good working condition for them, it is going to like them to be loyal to your brand.
If you want to avoid your staff working for competitors, always attend to their needs. Give them competitive compensation and fringe benefits; prospects for career advancement; treat them with respect and provide them with a nice working environment.
Majority of the multi-national companies would never want their staffs to work for another big company, especially if the staff is highly experienced. Maybe offering great incentives would work?
I guess you never really can stop your workers from going to competitor business organizations, but as you have said - the best and one of the only ways to stop your workers from doing that is by taking the best care of them and looking after them as well as you can.
