Yeah helping a family member doesn't have to be that person working for you. It is better to give them a job else where than keeping them in your company .
Unprofessionalism is something that can do so much harm to your business. It is better to let the person go than lose something that you have built from scratch with tears and sweat. Condoning such behaviours will only lead you to bankruptcy and business closure.
When employees act unprofessional, I would call their attention to it by having a talk with them. After exhausting that, I would start taking punitive measures.
It is unprofessional. It is better not to hire relatives when running a business. Hiring a professional and honest individual who is not related to you is a better choice.
If after a lot of talks and corrections, your employees still refuses to be professional, I think it would be best to lay them off for others to come in.
This was very common in my last company, " Mineral Asia". There five to six unprofessional employees were present. They were not knowing the common things as how to interact with other professional employees. The main problem was that as company's M.D was very much convinced with them so we were not able to say them no for even some wrong things.
