When visiting another country on business, you could notice that the lunch customs there are very dissimilar from your own. To impress your business contacts, it could be a good idea to be familiar with the local customs of the country you're visiting. You won't go against their traditions and values in this way. It's oftenly a great thing to learn about the customs and the rules and the regulations of the country you are about to visit so that you can get yourself familiarised with the core principles and customs of the country.

I agree that one should know his/her customer before meeting with him/her. You should have some knowledge about the customs to make sure you do not do anything which your customer finds offensive.

That's right I totally agree with you. Sometimes cultural differences lead to conflict. Example: Something that we think is normal for their culture is considered impolite. So it's important to get to know customers before visiting, don't let our first impression be bad in their eyes.

You have to establish relationships with customers so that they can easily make you allign to the culture of a place. You don't have to be high handed with the locals.
