Retiring early

Is it a good idea to retire early, say when you are in your 40's? I do not think so.

Exactly. It's only when you have financial freedom at the age of 40 that you can actually consider retiring. But to me I don't see any reason why you should at 40 years when when your very rich. At 40 you should still be very vibrant to push it to the limit.

Here in India also, it is 60 years only. Of course, business people have their choice.

If you feel like you are financially stable and the money you have will last you till you die it is ok. But for me I can't do that since I still have the energy at 40 plus when you retire you won't be busy and you can get bored sometimes.

People do retire early because of many reasons some are asked to for VRS which is a voluntary retirement scheme but it is worth it only if you are settled and have enough money for your expenses

I believe that some people actually retire early as a result of their health challenges which they cannot help because if they can help it, I don't see the reason why they would retire early unless they have too much money just like you mentioned.

That one for health is a totally different issue. Its sad when you have to stop working because of your health, makes life extra hard

Many people make this decision when they feel they are unable to cope with their day job and the pressure it exerts on them and also when they have enough money or their kids are settled.

I haven't thought of when I am going to fully retire. I am a freelancer. I enjoy my work. As long as I am physically and mentally fit, I think I will continue to do my freelance work. I may work for less hours to spend more time with family and friends, but never thought of totally stop working.

I wish I can retire early, but it is impossible as I predicted now. I just go along and try to live to the fullest.

Retiring early is certainly good as you can enjoy your life, but it is quite impossible as retiring means you have a lot of passive income sources to pay your bills when you retire

I think in most cases retirement is an individual choice. Anyone who choose to retire at that age probably has a reason as to why they choose to.
