As a business owner, would you give key positions to your family members simply cause they are part of your family? Or would you give this key positions to does who are more than qualified for it?

Business employment should be based on merit. Family or relatives should not be employed because of family bond, it will be destructive to business growth.

It is a big NO for me when employing relatives to my own business. I prefer to hire my immediate family because it is considered a family business.

i don't know about others but I think high positions should only be given to those that deserve it. there's no need bringing in novice in the name of family members to run a business

Mostly I have seen this practice in many organisations. As if the father is Managing Director than his son will be in key post on that organisation and other family members were also enjoying with their prominent positions.

My family members might not even get to the position of being employees in my organization. The only condition for that to happen is that they must be highly qualified. Managerial position? They won't get it.

In my location, keys positions of big family businesses are occupied by immediate family members. They are mostly well educated. I guess this is due to trust issue and also the owner would like to pass on the family business to the next generation.

I do think it is common if we are working in a family business. It is most likely to happen that the nearest keen will have the higher position. For me, it is not a good thing. I would rather hire someone to lead the company.

It is important to appoint people based on their skills, experience, and merit this ensures the smooth functioning and success of the business. Nepotism may lead to resentment among other employees affecting their morale and may lead harming the business.

Even if my family member merits a higher position like a manager, I won't appoint him or her. There is every chance of him or her being complacent with my work.

All positions should be filled on a merit basis, you should not give anyone positions just because you are related and you want to give a favor. If you have nepotism, there will be a bad performance.

You are right but people have turned nepotism to something that is common because the person is your family member

I believe that this decision is going to be determined by the commitment of that particular family member in your business. This is because if it's someone that is not committed to the business, he doesn't deserve any higher position.

You are right
This is why some family members say that they are family did not help them because they did not qualify
